During this very difficult time of keeping our island at a minimum of COVID-19 cases, I’ve noticed some homes in my neighborhood have been filled with family in their yards and homes.
Family is a big deal here in the islands, but I have to wonder if it’s such a good thing to invite relatives over while we’re supposed to be social distancing.
Some could have no symptoms of this virus and still be carriers.
Not sure everyone understands that a cousin with no symptoms could be a carrier without knowing it, and might give the virus to another cousin — and so on.
We’re coming up to Easter this Sunday, where large family gatherings are the norm. Well, we currently live in a new norm.
Please get the word out and stay away from anyone not living in your home.

Who monitors tourists?
I’m rather concerned about our islands.
This past week, I still saw many travelers coming here to the Big Island.
I am questioning really what our governor had in mind. He stated travelers will have to quarantine for two weeks. I’m dealing, myself, with travelers, and I’m shocked because, really, who monitors them? How do we actually know that they are in a house without leaving?
I hear many are extending stays in Hawaii, but what keeps happening is travelers are still coming here, and are we safe?
I have had people traveling here for business, and they don’t have to get quarantined. Is this OK?
I want our islands to know really what’s happening because I care. I really want to know if we think this is OK or can we, the people of our islands, take a stand in unity and do something?
Something to think about.

Defiant churches
It is disturbing to read that so many churches (especially in those so-called “red states”) continue to offer Sunday services with many attendees.
Freedom of religion is a right, but that right should be denied if it means putting people at risk.
I hope none of our Big Island churches or temples are doing this (and I would hope the Tribune-Herald would call this to light, if so).
