The UH-Hilo baseball team’s 8-5 victory over Azusa Pacific stretched over two days but was worth the wait.
The game was suspended Wednesday because of rain at Wong Stadium and resumed the next day.
UHH trailed 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning when the game was halted.
The Vulcans rallied for six runs from the sixth to the eighth innings.
Brandyn Lee-Lehano pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the win, and John Kea struck out two in 1 1/3 innings for his first save.
Ryan Cho had a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh inning to push the Vuls ahead 6-5.
Chris had an RBI single to score Lawson Faria, who reached on an infield single, for a 7-5 lead.
In the eighth, Lucas Sakay singled and John Bicos had a run-scoring double for the final score.
Sakay and Aubort had three hits each, and Bicos and Lawson paired hits for the Vulcans, who pounded 14 hits.
In the second game, the Cougars won 4-0 behind Nick Estrella’s four-hitter.
He struck out nine and walked none in the complete game gem. He also hit a two-run homer in the eighth.
Aaron Roose had a two-run double in the fifth inning off starter Kyle Alcorn, who went five innings in a no-decision.
Alcorn allowed two runs, one unearned, on six hits and struck out three.
Christian Sadler pitched four innings and gave up two runs in the loss.
Aubort batted 2 for 3 to lead the Vulcans (3-7).
Roose went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to lead the Cougars (9-9).
The two teams are scheduled to play another doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday at Wong.
