Kealakehe’s boys soccer team will be home for the postseason for the first time in three seasons, while Waiakea once again will have to hit the road to reach the title game.
The sight for an inviting BIIF Division I semifinal was set in stone Saturday. Alex Bell scored twice as the Waveriders beat Konawaena 5-0 on their home field, passing the Warriors in the standings.
Matthew Enriquez, Xander Loyola and Micah Carson also scored for Kealakehe (9-2), and goalkeeper Zachary Aderinto collected the shutout against the Wildcats (3-7), who have to beat Christian Liberty on Thursday and hope the Canefire can beat Honokaa a day later to reach the playoffs.
In D-I, Kealakehe is tied for first with Hilo, which owns the tiebreaker thanks to a head-to-head victory with a match remaining, so the Warriors and Waveriders will meet in a Jan. 29 semifinal in Kailua-Kona.
The Waveriders have lost road semifinals in each of the past two seasons, while Waiakea fell at HPA in the 2019 semis.
Hilo 9, Keaau 0: Michael DeCoito and Logan Mizuba each scored twice as the Vikings clinched the top seed in the D-I playoffs.
In match played at Waiakea, Haku Tolentino-Perry, Chauncen Labra, Issac Knell and Kyler Rivera also scored for Hilo (9-1) – which also took advantage of an own goal – and Jyson Breitbarth and Tyson Kaniaupio shared in the shutout of the Cougars (1-9-1).
The Vikings can clinch an automatic state berth as the outright regular season champion with a win Tuesday against Makua Lani.
Makua Lani 9, Christian Liberty 0: Isaiah Easley scored four goals as the Lions remained in first place in D-II ahead of their big match with Hilo.
In contest played at Kealakehe, Ilinahe Beatty, Joshua Luth, Timmy Catanzaro and Ka’alele Fernandez scored one goal apiece for Makua Lani (8-2), and Dominic Perrino was credited with the shutout of the Canefire (1-6-1).
Makua Lani can lock down an automatic state berth with a win Tuesday against Hilo. A loss likely means the Lions fall to the No. 2 seed.
Hawaii Prep 8, Honokaa 0: Daniel Vidal Gayoso recorded a hat trick and Noah Balaam added two goals as Ka Makani rolled at home.
Ignat Nesposountnii, Mason Hunt and Aiden Richardson also found the back of the next for Ka Makani (7-3), who finish the regular season against Christian Liberty.
Zane Willman and Kawehi Cabuzel shared in the shutout of the Dragons (3-6-1).
Girls
Hilo 7, Keaau 0: Booboo Corpuz tallied three goals with three assists as the Vikings locked down the third seed in the D-I playoffs.
Kaimana Macomber, Jazlin Menino, Kekai Kalaola-Bowman and Hauoli Kalipi also scored for Hilo (6-5-1), and Kali’u Boteilho and Kuuipo Kalipi each played goalkeeper in the shutout of the Cougars (1-9-1).
The match was played at Waiakea, and Hilo will return to Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium at 3 p.m. Wednesday in a semifinal against the Warriors.
Hawaii Prep 9, Honokaa 0: Angela Cipriano netted a hat trick with an assist, Bella Police scored once with two assists and Jenna Perry assisted on four goals as Ka Makani rolled at home.
Emily Thompson scored on a penalty kick and assisted on Morgan Davis’ goal, and Alianna West, Kahele Walsh and Riley Sohriakoff also scored for HPA (10-1). Maia Mills and Sarah Kiernan shared in the shutout of the Dragons (3-8).
Because of a Ka’u forfeit, Ka Makani has a bye through to the D-II final Saturday in Waimea. They will take on either Kamehameha or Honokaa, who play Wednesday in a semifinal at Paiea Stadium in Keaau.
“Very happy how the girls played today to finish up the regular season, especially for our six seniors,” HPA coach Stephen Perry said. “A special group. Very unselfish play today with great set-up play for finishes.
“The girls are excited to head into the next portion of the season.”
