The Kohala Animal Relocation And Education Service, or KARES, is proud to announce it has been awarded a $9,800 grant from Bissell Pet Foundation for spay and neuter procedures. KARES will use these funds to prevent unwanted litters of cats and dogs, as many are placed in already overcrowded shelters.
The Kohala Animal Relocation And Education Service, or KARES, is proud to announce it has been awarded a $9,800 grant from Bissell Pet Foundation for spay and neuter procedures. KARES will use these funds to prevent unwanted litters of cats and dogs, as many are placed in already overcrowded shelters.
“Through no fault of their own, wonderful pets end up in the shelter, said Cathy Bissell, Founder of Bissell Pet Foundation. “It’s a heartbreaking reality that BPF works to prevent through funding for spay and neuter. We are committed to helping our partners save lives.”
The funding will be used to provide spay/neuter services to the community throughout the year.
“Spay and neuter is the humane way to control and reduce the overpopulation of pets on the island. Since beginning KARES canine spay/neuter program in 2010, surgeries have been performed on 5,026 dogs, a free service to their owners.
“KARES is most grateful for support from private donors and corporate foundations such as the BPF that have made this life-saving work possible,” said Deborah Cravatta, founder and president of KARES.
