Alii Drive reopened in Kailua Village

KAILUA-KONA — Alii Drive has reopened to both lanes of travel between Hualalai and Walua roads Friday after Hawaii County crews assessed a sinkhole that developed Tuesday fronting Coconut Grove Marketplace in Kailua Village.

Sex assault re-offender pleads guilty

KAILUA-KONA — A 36-year-old Ka‘u man indicted by a Kona grand jury for a 2017 sexual assault of a minor while serving an intermittent prison sentence for similar charges back to 2011 pleaded guilty Tuesday in Circuit Court.

A progressive wish list for 2020

The term “progressive” gets bandied around a lot, even by people who aren’t talking about insurance. As the editor of a 111-year-old publication called The Progressive, I like pointing out that this designation is not about belonging to any political party (my magazine’s founder, legendary Wisconsin Sen. Robert “Fighting Bob” La Follette, was a Republican) but believing in a set of ideals.
