The victim has been identified as Edgar William Schwoyer.

Schwoyer was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:05 a.m.
Police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Schwoyer’s death is the 16th official traffic fatality this year compared to 21 at this time last year. There are three road-related deaths that police don’t count toward the official traffic fatelity total, however, two because the victims’ deaths were ruled caused by a medical condition. The other was because the fatal collision occurred within federal jurisdiction in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
