‘Take the victory’
I am a mere 63 years old and call on kupuna to peacefully end the roadblock on the Maunakea Access Road.
You can claim a huge victory! The Hawaii Supreme Court ruled that five of the 13 telescopes must be removed, and the Thirty Meter Telescope will be the last new telescope site.
So be the bigger persons. Take the victory and let it go. Let TMT not only look out, but also bring the heavens in … in to the sacred mauna.
Kupuna, be realistic and reasonable. Show wisdom by looking long range and big picture.
It took decades to reach this point. Decades from now, TMT will be gone. Have confidence in today’s generation going forward, but step up now. End this conflict peacefully before our communities, families and workplaces are torn further apart and somebody gets sick, hurt or worse.

Hawaii’s majority asks you for your support of TMT. This process has been ongoing now for more than a decade, and TMT has been approved by the supreme court, the permitting process and the majority of Hawaii’s citizens.
The small, vocal minority is violating the law, and TMT has every right to start construction.
There are many false narratives going on with the protesters/protectors. Many are entangling sovereignty, past wrongs and grievances of many sorts into this one project. I know you sympathize with the people who are violating the law by blocking legal access to Maunakea, but you must do the right thing and enforce the access for TMT to build now!
You must do your duty to allow access. If legal access isn’t given, then the state and Hawaii County could be open to lawsuits that could bankrupt the state and put its residents in financial jeopardy with higher taxes.
Significant sums of money are being lost by astronomers, scientists and tours by lack of access. Hawaii’s future is too valuable to put at risk.
The governor does not have the will or courage to stand up for the rule of law and the future of Hawaii. You must!

Enough desecration
There is no doubt in my mind the TMT must not begin construction.
Desecration of this island has gone beyond the beyond. ‘A‘ole! I say: No, ‘a‘ole!
Have you opened your eyes to the despicable condition in which we humans are leaving our aina (land), honua (planet), kamali‘i (children), kanaka (people), kupuna (elders), even our wai (waters), kahawai (rivers) and maonakai (deep oceans)?
We have nei mohuoli (great islands) of opala (trash) floating in them. What have we done with our lani (heavens)?
Yes, we have begun to fill them, too, with rubbish from satellites and moon shots. ‘A‘ole! No more rubbish, ever, in our heavens or on our beautiful mauna, Maunakea, or our home.
First, we must clean up our home, our honua. Show her how grateful we are she feeds us, clothes us and quenches our thirst. We have drawn our line in the sand. We want our scientists to solve these ho‘opuka (issues). Then and only then will we allow you to look out into po.
