Elemelec “Eley” “Melec” Erorita Aguinaldo, 80, of Papaikou died June 26 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired vegetable farmer and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 8-9:30 a.m. July 12 (Friday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Maura Aguinaldo of Papaikou; sons, Jerry (Belen) Aguinaldo and Nixon (Imelda) Aguinaldo of Waipahu, Oahu, Emilio (Milagros) Aguinaldo and Joy (Lewelyn) Aguinaldo of Papaikou, Zaldy (Grace) Aguinaldo of Virginia; daughters, Marilou (Ben) De Vera of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Elenita (Noel) Julian of Pepeekeo and Maydanell (Charles) Lim of Missouri; sister, Noemi (Fidel) Cadavona of Kalihi, Oahu; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Chitsuko Asuka, 91, of Hilo died June 29 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kukuihaele, she was retired from the late opthamologist Dr. John M. Zelko’s office and a member of Tenrikyo Church and Upper Kaumana Kumiai. Private services held. Survived by husband, Robert Asuka of Hilo; son, Darrell Asuka of Hilo; daughters, Audrey (John) Kusiak of Santa Fe, N.M., Norine (Scott Tamura) Asuka of Honolulu; brother, Robert (Janis) Kashimoto of Tucson, Ariz.; a step-grandson; nieces and nephews. Charles Kalani Kaiawe, 44, of Hilo died May 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kailua-Kona, he was a truck driver for Hawaii Gas, fisherman and member of Central Kawailani Kumiai. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Saturday (July 13) at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire; no flowers. Adeline Kahela Makuakane, 68, of Hilo died June 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, production worker at Hilo Quality Cleaners, waitress at Jimmy’s Drive Inn and the former Hilo Lanes Restaurant, member of Hawaiian Bowling Club and attendee of Ka ‘Uhane Hemolele o ka Malamala Church, Haili Church, Kuhio Chapel and Opihikao Congregational Church. Visitation and celebration of life noon-5:30 p.m. Sunday (July 14) at Haili’s Tent in Panaewa. Casual attire. Survived by son, William Kalae Makuakane of Hilo; sisters, Margie (Gerald) Abiley, Millicent (Herbert) Riedel-Majamay, Cindy Wilson and Robyn (Greer) Riedel of Hilo; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and hanai family. Daniel “Danny” Oliveira, 59, of Papaikou died June 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an opihi picker and fisherman. Viewing 9-10 a.m. Saturday (July 13) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalaoa Catholic Cemetery in Papaikou. Casual attire; no koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Kaniela (Shawna) Oliveira of Kailua-Kona and Jason (Sahara) Oliveira of Ka‘u; stepfather, Manuel A. Soares Jr. of Hilo; brothers, David (Jennifer) Oliveira of Kurtistown and Antone (Candy Mullins) Oliveira of Hilo; three grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry Thomas Russell Sr., 78, of Kailua-Kona died June 27 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in London, Ohio, he was a retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class, maintenance man in a Texas veterans office, office clerk at VA clinic and member of American Legion. Memorial services 9 a.m. Wednesday (July 10) at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire.
