The Pahoa High senior had a lot of help in earning this belated honor.
Martinez, a member of the Daggers’ football team, slugged four home runs with a dozen RBIs as the Pahoa unified softball team struck gold at the Special Olympics state summer games on Oahu in late May.
Honorable mention goes to coach Frank Degele and the 15 Special Olympians on the squad, which finished 2-0 and bested Mililani 12-10 in the final.
