Japanese tourist, husband charged in sex assault case
HONOLULU — A Japanese tourist and her husband lured another visitor from Japan to their Waikiki hotel room and sexually assaulted her, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Nagisa and Darrell Dorch with multiple counts of sexual assault.
According to court documents, the couple and the woman were hanging out at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort pool. The documents say Nagisa Dorch asked the woman to go with her to the couple’s hotel room to help pick out a bathing suit.
After they entered the room, Darrell Dorch arrived and the couple became intimate, which made the woman uncomfortable, the documents said. When she tried to leave, Darrell Dorch allegedly punched her repeatedly. Nagisa Dorch translated her husband’s sexual demands and kissed the woman, police said.
Nagisa Dorch helped the woman leave the room when the couple’s son knocked on the door and Darrell Dorch went on the balcony, court documents said.
Court documents said the woman was raped at least four times.
Nagisa Dorch’s lawyer, Walter Rodby, said in court Monday that Nagisa Dorch has never been in trouble before.
State Public Defender Jack Tonaki, whose office represented Darrell Dorch in court, declined to comment.
He said it’s too early to tell whether his office will continue to represent him.
Oahu prison employee found dead in bathroom
HONOLULU — The state Department of Public Safety says a staff cook supervisor at an Oahu prison was found dead in a dining hall bathroom.
Halawa Medium Security Facility officials did not provide a cause of death or say whether foul play is suspected.
They say the death is under investigation and a coroner will make a final determination.
Public Safety says the employee was found unconscious in a staff bathroom. The prison’s medical staff responded and confirmed the man died.
Officials say the bathroom is for staff use only.
The death comes two weeks after a controversial Senate confirmation of Nolan Espinda to continue to lead the Department of Public Safety, which has come under fire amid numerous internal and external investigations.
