Beginning in mid-January, John A. Burns School of Medicine gynecologic oncology faculty joined Dr. Emilie Stickley at the University Health Partners and JABSOM faculty practice.
UHP and JABSOM recently opened their first clinical practice in Hilo — the office, located at 82 Puuhonu Place, is led by Stickley, who currently offers high-quality obstetrics and gynecological patient care. The addition of gynecologic oncology specialists will allow UHP to expand services in Hilo to include gynecologic oncology, providing residents with access to gynecologic oncologists that specialize in diagnosing and treating cancerslocated in a woman’s reproductive organs.
Drs. Keith Terada and Robert Kim started this service. The GYN Oncology Division also includes Dr. Michael Carney.
“Gynecologic cancers are complex and treatment often involves multiple modalities, as every woman is different and has unique needs and treatment goals,” said Ivica Zalud, MD, PhD, professor and chair of the JABSOM Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health. “We are so we ecstatic to have our specialists available to provide early cancer diagnosis, state of the art treatment and compassionate care”
Terada is a Kosasa endowed professor and vice chair for the OBGYN department and Women’s Health for JABSOM, who received his medical degree from the University of California Hospital & Clinics. He received his fellowship from the University of Michigan Medical Center.
Kim also is a gynecologic oncology specialist. He received his medical degree from Northwestern University Prentice Women’s Hospital and fellowship from The Cleveland Clinic. He specializes in gynecologic oncology, minimally-invasive robotic surgery and also is an assistant professor for JABSOM.
Both physicians take turns treating patients on the first and third Fridays of each month.
