Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center continues its free “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series from noon-1 p.m. April 18.
This month’s speaker is Julie Mitchell, who will present “The Art of Negotiation: Getting What You Want Through Collaborative Problem-Solving.”
“Do you want to effectively negotiate household chores; your salary, job title or a promotion; or your next car or home purchase?” Mitchell asks. “Knowing what you want and how to ask for it is one of the first steps to becoming a skillful negotiator.”
In this interactive talk, learn some powerful negotiation techniques — including framing the ask, making offers and counteroffers and sealing the deal.
Mitchell grew up in Los Angeles, received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California, Irvine, and moved to East Hawaii in 1998. A Weinberg Fellow, she has a Certificate in Professional Development for Not-for-Profit Management from Hawaii Community College and received a 2016 AIM For Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Non-Profit Management. In addition to being Ku‘ikahi’s executive director, Mitchell also is a mediator, facilitator and trainer.
Ku‘ikahi’s brown bag lunch series is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and meet others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”
Talks are scheduled for the third Thursday of every month at the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave., in Hilo.
