The Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association is commemorating 60 years of volunteer dance instruction founded by Eugene and Harriet Ichinose in 1959 on Oahu.
Their vision of a nonprofit dance club providing instruction, socialization and fun by volunteer dance instructors in multiple chapters throughout the state became a reality.
The East Hawaii Chapter of HBDA celebrates its 30th anniversary April 13 by posthumously honoring past rotating instructors Sally and Robert Visaya.
There has been a long list of volunteer rotating and senior instructors who patiently shared the joyful tenets of dance and continue the HBDA mission in East Hawaii by providing ballroom dance classes that are fun, affordable and promote healthy minds and bodies. Today, Joyce and Andy Iwashita, rotating instructors, along with Nick and Carol Myrianthis, senior instructors, continue inspiring dance enthusiasts in East Hawaii.
The East Hawaii Chapter welcomes all to enjoy the thrill of dancing to your favorite music. The next session starts April 3 with instruction in tango and cha-cha.
For information about the anniversary dance or classes, contact Andrea Kunimura, president of East Hawaii Chapter, at 443-3489.
