Ernest Lawrence “Larry” Bereman, 73, of Ponca City, Okla., formerly of Hilo, died Feb. 10 at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Oklahoma City. Born in Jackson, Tenn., he was a retired journalism professor at Emporia State University, taught at Truman State University, was chief editor and photographer at Ponca City News, a former staff writer for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and U.S. Air Force Vietnam Era veteran. Services Thursday (March 7) at his home, 804 Gray Ave., Ponca City. Survived by wife, Delima Bereman of Ponca City; daughters, Kristen (Tyler) Colton of Oklahoma City and Cassandra Bereman of Ponca City; son, Shane Bereman of Ponca City; brothers, Ronald E. (Beth) Bereman and Richard L. (Tina) Bereman of Hudson, Fla.; sisters, Shelley L. (Delbert) Bereman-Benevides of Hilo and Pamela L. (David) Norris of Hardinsburg, Ind.; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
