Residents concerned about new rules that will increase fees at the state’s small boat harbors will be able to comment about the rules during a series of public hearings next month.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation plans five public meetings throughout the state in March, with two to be on the Big Island.
The proposed rules by the DLNR would recalculate mooring fees at small boat harbors based on either the length of the mooring area itself or the length of the vessel, whichever is greater.
Mooring fees were last increased seven years ago.
Residents are encouraged to present testimony orally or in writing at the upcoming hearings.
The Big Island hearings will take place at 6 p.m. March 4 at the Kealakehe High School cafeteria in Kona and at 5 p.m. March 7 in the Hilo State Office Building conference room.
