Details: This 20-plus member Oakland, Calif.-based musical ensemble from the Academy of Hawaiian Arts under the direction of Hilo native Kainani Hartnett is dedicated to learning and performing Hawaiian music. Members play ukulele, guitar, bass, ipu, and sometimes other traditional Hawaiian musical instruments. They are known for their vocal harmonies and unique arrangements of classic Hawaiian mele. Also featured will be hula performed by some of the ensemble members, who in addition to studying and performing with the group also are students of the academy’s halau.
