Lava edges closer to Isaac Hale

Lava continued to enter the ocean Thursday at Ahalanui and threaten Isaac Hale Beach Park.

The southern margin of the ocean entry was 0.3 miles from the park and Pohoiki boat ramp, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Lava is flowing from fissure 8 in Leilani Estates on Kilauea’s East Rift Zone.

At the summit of Kilauea in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, another collapse event equal to the energy of a 5.4-magnitude earthquake occurred at 4:45 p.m.

The collapse events have damaged Highway 11 near the national park.

One lane of the highway near mile marker 28 was reduced to one lane Thursday evening to allow crews to repair a hole on the outbound shoulder.
