The Royal Order of Kamehameha I congratulates Clarence Kukauakahi Ching and Dr. Pualani Kanaka‘ole Kanahele for being bestowed with the 2018 Mamalahoa Award on King Kamehameha Day (June 11) during the Kamehameha Festival on Moku Ola (Coconut Island).
Kanahele and Ching were honored for their exemplary leadership and dedication in uplifting the Native Hawaiian community, perpetuating Hawaiian culture and protecting sacred places.
Kanahele is a Hawaiian scholar, cultural practitioner and renowned kumu hula. Ching is a former Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustee, Hawaiian cultural practitioner and longtime proponent of Native Hawaiian rights.
The Mamalahoa Award is bestowed each year on Kamehameha Day by the Royal Order of Kamehameha and is presented to one exemplary kane and wahine for their dedicated service.
