A Kailua-Kona man alleged to have rammed a Mauna Kea telescope facility with his truck will make his first appearance in court today.
Police say James Coleman, 30, was charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal property damage, attempted first-degree criminal property damage, two counts of second-degree criminal property damage and two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $84,000 and he remained Thursday at the Hilo cellblock.
Coleman is accused of driving his truck multiple times into a building Tuesday at the Very Long Baseline Array and trying to break into a room where two employees barricaded themselves.
Police also allege he attempted to ram the vehicle of a ranger from the Office of Mauna Kea Management who was attempting to intervene.
