Friday is the final deadline for submitting an entry to the annual E Ola Pono Campaign, a statewide initiative that encourages youth groups of any age to develop projects and activities that bring harmony, peace and pono to their schools and communities.
Friday is the final deadline for submitting an entry to the annual E Ola Pono Campaign, a statewide initiative that encourages youth groups of any age to develop projects and activities that bring harmony, peace and pono to their schools and communities.
Groups that submit their entry with an essay about their campaign highlights by the deadline are eligible to win monetary awards of $500 to $1,000.
The monetary awards are given to outstanding campaigns in elementary, middle and high school divisions. Any activity or projects initiated during the 2013-14 school year can be written up and submitted.
The E Ola Pono Campaign was initiated seven years ago to promote an understanding of living pono, which is a proactive and positive way to address bullying.
“When groups of all ages focus on understanding and promoting pono, or making ‘right choices’, positive things happen,” said Sara Ka‘imipono Banks, campaign coordinator.
Banks and the staff of the Growing Pono Schools Project, a program of the Center on Disability Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, coordinate this campaign in partnership with the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission.
