A bicycle-riding bandit robbed a man Friday in Hilo, according to police.

The 31-year-old victim was robbed between 4 -4:30 a.m. while standing on the sidewalk of Kanoelehua Avenue near Leilani Street.

The robber — described as white, thin, mid-30s to early 40s, with long hair — rode up to him on a bicycle and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The robber, who was also brandishing a knife, rode north afterward.

He was wearing a white tank top, bright red or orange shorts and was carrying a light-colored messenger bag.

Police ask anyone who might have witnessed the robbery or who knows the identity of the suspect to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
