A Kona grand jury has indicted a 19-year-old Kailua-Kona man for livestock theft and felony animal cruelty.
A Kona grand jury has indicted a 19-year-old Kailua-Kona man for livestock theft and felony animal cruelty.
According to the indictment, Cody Baker stole a pig from Konawaena High School on March 2 or 3.
“We have a farm here and we had some property damage and we were missing some of the animals,” said Shawn Suzuki, Konawaena’s principal. “We put in a police report, and apparently, they did a great job. We really appreciate it.”
There may have been juveniles involved, as well, as the Kona Juvenile Aid section investigated the case. Arrests of and charges against juveniles are not made public under most circumstances.
The particulars of the animal cruelty allegations are not known, but the indictment states that Baker “did intentionally or knowingly torture, mutilate and/or poison” the animal.
Both offenses are Class C felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.
