The National Weather Service is keeping a close watch on a Category 1 hurricane churning in the Eastern Pacific.
Hurricane Daniel does not pose any immediate threat to Hawaii, although in the coming week it will cross into the Central Pacific as a weak tropical storm or a tropical depression.
As of Friday night the hurricane was located 2,500 miles east of Pahoa and moving west at a steady 12 mph. The NWS National Hurricane Center expects the hurricane to reach a peak strength and will be weakening in the next day or two as it enters cooler water.
Hurricane season in the Pacific continues through November.
