Waiakea High School students of Na Haumana O Waiakea, above, perform a chant Aug. 18 during the blessing and opening of the Kapiolani Street extension in Hilo. At left, many members of the community gathered to observe the completion of the long-awaited extension. The project, which closed a half-mile gap between Lanikaula and Mohouli streets, also included the installation of traffic lights at Mohouli and Lanikaula, bike lanes, a turning lane, curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
