BIIF volleyball playoffs: Vikings, Warriors and others advance

KEALAKEHE — Third-seeded (East) Hilo girls volleyball drove to the Kona side over the weekend for one objective — advance to the semifinals of the Central Pacific Bank/Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division I Tournament. On Saturday’s opening-round match against No. 2 (West) Kealakehe, the Vikings did just that.

Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i girls volleyball traveled north to Hilo High to conclude its undefeated regular-season slate against the Vikings on Thursday night. KSH won in consecutive sets for the 15th occasion in 2024 — 25-16, 25-18 and 25-17.

UH to join MWC in all sports

The University of Hawaii announced Tuesday that it will join the Mountain West Conference as a full-time member effective July 1, 2026.

BIIF volleyball: Last week of regular season begins

The final week of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) girls volleyball regular season began Monday with matches across the isle. Official BIIF playoff brackets will become official after the last match is played Thursday night. Playoffs will begin Friday.

BIIF football: Aipia makes history; Wildcats, Cougars and Dragons dominate

KAMUELA — Hawaii Preparatory Academy football scored its most points in a game since Sept. 2021 in Saturday’s beatdown against Ka‘u at home — winning 69-0. Ka Makani executed its game plan perfectly by dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. It was the second time HPA has shut out the Trojans in 2024.

Local kickboxing: Two-day Toughman season finale this weekend

HILO — Two nights of non-stop kickboxing action begins Friday with the Next Generation Toughman Hawaii Season Finale at Hilo Civic Auditorium. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the show beginning at 6 p.m. and 2 p.m./3 p.m. on Saturday. Fighters from around the globe have made their way to Hilo to compete in what is becoming one of the largest junior international division martial arts competitions in the world.

BIIF sports: Warriors rout Daggers

KEA‘AU — Business was booming for Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i football on Thursday night against Pahoa. The Warriors routed the Daggers 59-0 in Kea‘au. It was the second time KSH shut out Pahoa.

Ironman pro field revealed

KAILUA-KONA — An elite field of the world’s best professional male triathletes, including four former Ironman World Champions, will assemble in Kona town for the men’s edition of the 2024 VinFast Ironman World Championship triathlon. On Saturday, October 26, both the professional and age-group men will contest for their respective Ironman World Championship titles on the much-revered Kona course.
