BIIF canoe paddling championship postponed due to weather
The Central Pacific Bank/BIIF canoe paddling championship has been rescheduled from Saturday morning to Wednesday afternoon due to inclement weather and high surf.
Originally slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, the regatta in Hilo Bay will now begin at 12 p.m. Wednesday, with races starting at 1 p.m.

The BIIF elected this morning to reschedule the event, rather than cancel it.
The Hawaii High School Athletic Association state championship is still scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10, in Hilo Bay.
The top four boys, girls and mixed crews from the BIIF will compete in the state championship — as well as six of each crews from the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association, three of each from Maui, two of each from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and one of each from Kauai.
A high surf warning is in effect today for north-facing shores of Hawaii Island, and a wind advisory continues through Sunday evening.
A high surf warning means large breaking surf, significant shore breaks, and dangerous currents exist that could cause significant injury or death.
Due to the high surf, the following remain closed this afternoon: Bay Front Highway, Bayfront beach and Onekahakaha Beach Park.
