Body discovered in Kona park

Police are investigating the discovery of a body found at Hale Halawai Park in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly before 6 a.m. today, Kona patrol officers responded to the county park near the intersection of Alii Drive and Hualalai Road on the report of a lifeless body there. The man’s body was transported to Hilo Medical Center for official pronouncement of death and scheduling of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have identified the victim as a 48-year-old resident of Kailua-Kona. However, his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing the investigation, which is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest.
