Police ID body found below Hakalau Bridge

Police have identified a body discovered on the shoreline below the Hakalau Bridge on Feb. 23 as 23-year-old Ron Jon Cacho Pira of Honokaa.

According to an autopsy performed on Friday, there were no signs of foul play, police said. The full autopsy report is pending toxicology results.

Police and fire personnel who responded to the area shortly before 10 a.m. on Feb. 23 found Pira’s body on the rocks on the north side of the stream.

The investigation, which is ongoing, is classified as a coroner’s inquest.

Anyone who may have seen Pira on the highway near the Hakalau Bridge late on the evening of Feb. 22 or early in the morning of Feb. 23 is asked to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
