The state Department of Health today reported 588 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Hawaii, including 96 new infections on the Big Island.
An average of 589 new cases have been reported daily Sept. 8-14.
Hawaii County now has a 6.9% test positivity rate compared to a 6.6% positivity rate statewide.
In the past 14 days, 301 infections have been reported in Hilo and 354 have been reported in Kailua-Kona.
During that same time period, 67 cases have been reported in Waimea; 52 in Kealakekua; 57 in the Captain Cook, Ocean View and Honaunau areas; 95 in Pahoa; and 92 in Keaau.
The DOH reported eight additional COVID-related deaths today.
A Hawaii Island woman over 80 was hospitalized.
On Oahu, a woman 30-39 was hospitalized and woman over 80 died at home, while a woman 40-49 was not hospitalized at the time of her death. Three men, ages 50-59, 60-69 and over 80, were hospitalized, and one man, 60-69, died at home.
According to the DOH, 65.9% of Hawaii’s population has now been fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus and 74.3% have received at least one dose.
In Hawaii County, 62% of residents are fully inoculated while 74% have received at least one dose.

Testing is available from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. today at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo and noon to 2 p.m. at the Pahala Community Center in Pahala.
