“We are starting to see an increase of cases associated with gatherings during Thanksgiving,” Hawaii County Civil Defense wrote in a message today. “This does emphasize the importance of following the preventive measures when you gather to celebrate the holidays.”
Individuals should stay home if they are feeling unwell, Civil Defense said, but if opting to gather, people should wear face masks and wash hands with soap and water.
According to Civil Defense, one person is hospitalized and 49 COVID-related deaths have so far been reported on the Big Island. No fatalities have been reported in the last three weeks.
According to the DOH, Hawaii County has a 1.2% test positivity rate.
Statewide, the DOH reported 80 new cases and a 1.8% test positivity rate today.
