Seven cases were reported on the Big Island today.
Although no additional deaths were reported by the state — leaving the official statewide death toll at 187 — a fifth COVID-related death was reported Friday at Life Care Center of Hilo, bringing the number of Big Island deaths attributed to the virus to 40.
According to an update posted to Life Care Center’s website this morning, a total of 53 residents and 16 employees have tested positive for the virus.
One resident is being treated at Hilo Medical Center, 40 are receiving treatment at Life Care Center, two residents have been discharged and five have now recovered.
Seven employees have fully recovered.
In addition to the five deaths at Life Care Center, 27 deaths have occurred at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, one has been reported at Kona Community Hospital and Hilo Medical Center on Friday reported seven community deaths unrelated to COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care facilities.
A number of the Big Island deaths have not yet been added to the DOH total.
