The state Department of Public Safety said in a statement Thursday that 25 inmates involved Tuesday in what police called a “riot” at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in Hilo were transferred Wednesday to Halawa Correctional Facility on Oahu, a medium security prison.

They were transported without incident on two charter flights, according to DPS.
“This large transport could not have been coordinated and executed this fast and efficiently without the collaboration of many departments and agencies,” said Maria Cook, DPS deputy director of administration.
The remaining inmate involved in the disturbance remains at HCCC, the department said.
According to DPS, cleanup and assessment of the Waianuenue A-wing continues and final incident reports confirm inmates started the disturbance after a contraband sweep in their housing unit.
“There is no indication that overcrowding contributed to the cause,” according to the statement.
There have been no arrests, so far, but a DPS internal investigation and a criminal investigation by Hawaii Police Department are still ongoing, DPS said.
