Two more deaths on Oahu, state total rises to 29

Two more Hawaii residents have died of COVID-19, bringing the statewide death count to 29.

Both casualties were elderly Oahu residents, one male and one female, both with underlying health issues, and both were hospitalized when they died.

“The passing of this man really demonstrates how rapidly and invisibly COVID-19 is spreading through our communities, particularly on Oahu and particularly associated with clusters,” said state epidemiologist Sarah Park. “A close contact of this individual attended a spin class at a gym taught by a person linked to the Hawaiian Airlines cluster.”

State health director Bruce Anderson urged residents to continue to stay home if they feel sick, wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
