During the week spanning May 13-19, Hawaii Police Department officers made four arrests and issued 11 citations for alleged violations of Gov. David Ige’s emergency stay-at-home order related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the week spanning May 13-19, Hawaii Police Department officers made four arrests and issued 11 citations for alleged violations of Gov. David Ige’s emergency stay-at-home order related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The actions, broken down by district, were:
• Kona: two arrests, five citations and two criminal cases initiated.
• Ka‘u: one arrest, three citations.
• Puna: one arrest.
• South Kohala: three citations.
• Hamakua, one criminal case initiated.
In addition, three criminal cases were filed involving visitors reportedly violating the 14-day travel self-quarantine, although no arrests or citations were issued to visitors during the week.
The eight-week combined total enforcement stands at 347 individual offenses (98 arrests, 237 citations issued and 12 additional cases).
Violations of the emergency stay-at-home or 14-day visitor quarantine orders are misdemeanors that carry potential penalties of a year in jail or a fine of $5,000 upon conviction.
