During the week of March 30-April 5, Hawaii Island police arrested five motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic collision. None were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, two; South Hilo, Puna and Ka‘u, one each.
So far this year, there have been 267 DUI arrests compared to 311 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.1%.
There have been 239 major accidents so far this year compared to 261 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.4%.
To date, there have been seven official traffic fatalities compared with three fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 133.3% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
