During the week of May 20-26, Hawaii Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; South Hilo, seven; Puna, three; Ka‘u, North Kohala and South Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 469 DUI arrests compared to 468 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.2 percent.
There have been 376 major accidents so far this year compared to 539 during the same period last year, a decrease of 30.2 percent.
To date, there have been eight official traffic fatalities, compared to 11 for the same time last year, a decrease of 27.3 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
