Tasty waves, a cool buzz: NH man surfs with coffee cup board
HAMPTON FALLS, N.H. — A New Hampshire man placed second in an innovation contest after fashioning a surfboard out of hundreds of used Dunkin’ Donuts coffee cups.
Thirty-two-year-old Korey Nolan of Hampton Falls, N.H., spent seven months collecting the cups for a competition put on by surf brand Vissla called Creators and Innovators Upcycle Contest. Nolan’s board’s made out of 700 cups.
Nolan also used more than 30 plastic straws and other materials in his board. Most cups came from family members who gave them to Nolan, though some were picked up from the roadside.
Nolan compressed the raw materials together and finished the board using bamboo, epoxy and more.
The top honors went to Titouan La Droitte, who built a board out of 150 aluminum cans.
Is that beer skunked? Skunk gets head stuck in beer can
BILLERICA, Mass. — A skunk that somehow got its head stuck in a discarded can of beer is being cared for by veterinarians in Massachusetts.
Animal control officers in Billerica, Mass., posted a picture of the unfortunate critter on Twitter. They said it “amazing” that its head could fit into such a small opening and noted it gave new meaning to the term “skunked beer.”
Police said the skunk was taken to Tufts Wildlife Clinic in North Grafton, Mass., after being found March 27. The plan was to sedate the skunk before removing the aluminum can, and then monitor the animal for a few days before returning it to the wild.
Deputies: Man faked robbery to get out of work
DUNDEE, Fla. — Authorities say a Florida man didn’t want to show up for his shift at a Hardee’s restaurant, so he called 911 and reported he was just robbed.
Brian Anderson, 32, of Dundee, Fla., told dispatchers Tuesday that two gun-carrying men took his necklace, money and phone before jumping into a car and driving away.
In a Facebook post, the Polk County sheriff’s department said Anderson confessed, adding that “on the bright side, Brian didn’t have to go to his 11 a.m. shift at the restaurant.”
Anderson is charged with misusing the 911 system and knowingly giving false information to law enforcement.
