New and unfilled backpacks may be dropped off at any Hawaii Island police station now through July 20.
Each contribution to help a child in need is greatly appreciated.
Backpacks are the most requested nonfood item by charities in Hawaii.
Since 2008, the Hawaii Police Department has been working in partnership with HOPE Services.
The backpacks are distributed to children at women’s shelters, homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities around the Big Island.
