A 36-year-old Pahoa man remains in jail after a judge on Monday refused to free him without cash bail.
Sione Siupele Siale is accused of threatening to shoot and kill his former in-laws and discharging several rounds from a handgun outside a Pearl Drive residence in Ainaloa Estates subdivision.
Police say the incident occurred Wednesday evening. Officers responded to multiple calls about gunshots and yelling coming from the home.
The victims told officers Siale was responsible for the threats and gunshots, and he was arrested on scene without incident.
Detectives later obtained a search warrant for the home to recover evidence and document the scene.
Detectives determined that Siale, who has a previous felony conviction for terroristic threatening, is prohibited from owning or being in possession of a firearm and/or ammunition.
On Friday morning, Siale was charged with first-degree reckless endangering, prohibited possession of a firearm and ammunition, and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.
At Siale’s initial court appearance Monday, Hilo District Judge Jeffrey Hawk denied a defense motion to free him on supervised release — a form of cashless bail — and ordered him to return to court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
Siale remains in Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $110,000 bail.
