KANU 3 – MAKUA LANI 0

Kanu o ka ‘Aina Charter’s boys volleyball team traveled south to play Makua Lani Christian Academy on Tuesday at Old Airport for some Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) action, and took care of business quite handily. Kanu swept the Lions by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15 for its first win of 2024.

Kanu’s defense in the middle of the floor halted MLCA’s spikes, which gave it a comfortable cushion with the lead in each set. The Lions fought hard, but it was not enough to prevail over the visiting team.

Now with a win under its belt, Kanu (1-5) will look to keep riding the momentum against powerhouse Ka‘u High — in a matchup slated for 10 a.m. Saturday in Kamuela.

Still winless at 0-6, Makua Lani will try to earn its first victory of the season against Hawaii Prep at 6 p.m. tonight in Waimea’s Castle Gym.
