Thalia Haimakaokalani Kauka, 63, of Hilo died March 26 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a former office clerk at the County of Hawaii Planning Department. No services. Survived by son, Jeremy J.N. Costa of Hilo; brothers, Robert (Lisa) Kauka of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Dennis (Enola) Kauka of Hilo; sisters, Gabrielle Fromme of Germany and Carolyn “Lei” Nobriga of Hilo; companion, David Pereira; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Dwight Man Cheong Heleikalani Lee Sr., 73, of Ocean View, died March 13 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired U.S. Army chief warrant officer, 2nd class. Private services held. Survived by sons, Dwight Lee Jr. of Waipahu, Oahu, and Jason (Tiara) Lee of Washington state; daughter, Dawn Lee of Wahiawa, Oahu; sisters, Darlene K. Salome Cuevas Mariposa, 104, of Mountain View died Feb. 11 at home. Born in Negros Occidental, Philippines, she was a homemaker. Visitation 8-9 a.m. Thursday (April 11) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mitsue “Mitzie” Noreen Taniyama, 88, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 9 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, she was a retired teacher at Konawaena Elementary School and member of Shinnyo-en Kona, Kona Bowl Teachers League, Waiaha Kumiai and Kailua Shita Kumiai. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Kona Hongwanji Hall in Kealakekua. Service at 11 a.m. Celebration of life luncheon to follow.
