Waiakea High’s girls soccer team and the Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i boys soccer team each added shutouts to their records, winning matches on Thursday.
WAIAKEA 9 – KEA‘AU 0
The Warriors blanked the homestanding Cougars, moving to 2-0 on their second shutout of the season.
WHS’ offense was led by the trio of Ailani Franklin, Kira Kuramoto and Sayde Pamarang — who each scored two goals.
Kau‘ionalani Mahi-Murray, Kalia Franklin and Shaunte Fernandez also each all scored one goal for Waiakea.
Goalkeeper Journey Morimoto was credited with her second shuout.
Now off to a 0-1 start, Kea‘au’s next outing will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the UH-Hilo soccer fields, against Hilo High (2-0). The Cougars’ boys team will play against the Vikings (2-0) after, at 4 p.m.
Waiakea will be back in action Wednesday afternoon, as both the boys and girls teams host Kealakehe.
KSH 9 – PARKER 0
The defending DII state champions dominated their season opener, crushing the Bulls as two Warriors players notched hat tricks.
Junior William Henderson and senior Lucas Kay-Wong each scored three goals to lead KSH’s offense. Gabriel Arquitola, Kanoa Honda and Micha Chung each contributed one goal.
Both KSH teams will play their home openers on Tuesday, hosting Honoka‘a High.
KEALAKEHE 9 – MAKUA LANI 0
In mercy-rule fashion in front of the Waverider faithful, Kealakehe boys soccer routed local opponent Makua Lani by a score of 9-0 on Friday at Waverider Stadium. The match ended in the 63rd minute once the Waveriders secured the final goal needed for the mercy rule.
Kealakehe (2-0 overall) played fast and aggressive, as Aukele Paikuli-Campbell, Duke Kapuniai and Ezekiel Imai scored goals for the blue and white.
The Waveriders will return to action Wednesday, where the team will travel east to face Waiakea. Makua Lani (0-1 overall) will also next play Wednesday, taking on Konawaena at Julian R. Yates Field.
HILO vs HPA
Hilo boys win 3-1.
Hilo girls win 8-0 — Kryslynn Nabarro scored a hat trick, Maiya Kepoo-DeConte scored two goals, Aneala Sibayan scored two goals. HPA scored once on own goal.
