Tuesday night saw more BIIF volleyball action, with three games taking place between the isle’s east and northeast sides.

VIKINGS ROUT WAVERIDERS
Hilo HS’ varsity volleyball team swept Kealakehe HS at home, moving to a 2-1 record and maintaining its No. 2 standing in BIIF DI.
The Vikings came out hot with a double-digit lead in the first set. Anolani Santos served 11 straight points with four aces before the Waveriders scored their first point.
Though Kealakehe eked out a few more points, it could not chip away at the lead and ultimately fell 25-11.
In the second set, Hilo took another early lead as Victoria-Irene Wassman served five points straight.
The Waveriders kept closer, and even tied the score mid-set — but later as Kealakehe lagged 18-14, Hilo went on a seven-point run to win 25-14. That scoring streak was served by Kamaleimahie Auwae, who scored the final point on an ace.
The third set looked much like the second, with Kealakehe trailing closely until Hilo pulled away mid-set to win 25-11.
Hilo will hit the road tonight with an outing at Kea‘au HS (0-2). JV starts at 5 p.m. and varsity follows. This match will complete Hilo’s first round of DI matches this season.
Kealakehe (0-3) will return to the east side Saturday to face Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i — JV starts at 10 a.m., varsity follows.

KSH SWEEPS WAIAKEA
KSH notched its second sweep of Waiakea HS and improved its BIIF record to 5-0 (13-1 counting tournament action).
So far, KSH has not lost a single set to any BIIF opponent this season.
KSH won in sets of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-9.
Maela Honma led KSH’s offense with 18 kills, she also contributed heavily on defense with a season high 27 digs. Honma is BIIF DI’s overall leader with 70 kills throughout her five BIIF outings this season.
Beals was KSH’s No. 2 on offense with 12 kills. Setter Hali‘imaileauli‘I Kuamo‘o also notched a new season high, with a whopping 39 assists to increase her season total to 110.
Kealohi Dudoit led KSH’s defense with 32 digs, trailed by Ziona Launiu’s 17 digs. Dudoit and Launiu each also recorded three aces to led their team.
After hosting Kealakehe on Saturday, KSH will host Kea‘au on Monday.
Now 2-3, Waiakea will have more than a week to prepare for the next opportunity to even out its record — Wednesday (Sept. 20), when WHS will host Kea‘au.

HONOKA‘A DEFEATS KANU
The Dragons swept visitor Kanu o ka ‘Aina Charter for their third straight win.
Honoka‘a prevailed in sets of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-19.
The Dragons’ record improved to 3-1, while Kanu’s dropped to 0-4 to join Christian Liberty Academy in a tie for the early-season bottom standing in BIIF DII.
Kanu will come down to Hilo on Monday to chase its first win, facing St. Joseph School at 6 p.m. at the Hilo Armory.
Honoka‘a will come to town tonight — playing against Ka ‘Umeke Ka‘eo Charter at 6 p.m. at Hilo HS.
