The Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph Fun Runs will be held Saturday morning at Coconut Island.

The event — which is sponsored by Sunrise Athletics — will feature a 5k run and a three-quarter mile run. The top three male and female keiki will receive medals.

Registration will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:20 a.m., with the runs beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The event is held to continue to honor the late Wayne Joseph, carry on his legacy and recognize the 2023 Wayne Joseph Scholarship Recipients.

This year’s $1,500 scholarship recipients include Gianna Chinen of Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i, Torrance Satta-Ellis of Konawaena High School, Landon Yanagisawa of Waiakea High School and Cameron Cornforth of Kealakehe High School.

A $500 “Most Inspirational” award was also presented to Catherine Nishida of Kea‘au High School.

The event is free, but donations are welcome — and will be put toward the scholarship’s fund.
