Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i senior Elijah Dinkel was named to the HHSAA 2023 Hall of Honor Class.

The class consists of 12 senior athletes who were selected by an 11-person committee comprised of current and former sports reporters, athletic directors and coaches from around the state.

The criteria for joining the class is based mainly on athletic achievement — but character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service also are taken into consideration.

Dinkel played football, soccer and track for KSH — and was part of Warriors’ 2023 DII State Champion soccer team.

He collected numerous accolades for the 2023 season, including HHSAA Most Outstanding Player of the Year, a ScoringLive All-Hawaii First Team selection and BIIF DII Player of the Year.

Dinkel led the state with 31 goals scored for the season, notching three hattricks and three hauls.

In football, he was named to the DII All-BIIF First Team as both a kicker and a punter and was ScoringLive’s All-Hawaii First Team kicker. Throughout the season, Dinkel completed 33 PAT kicks and made 11 field goals. He completed a season high three field goals and four extra points during a game against Hawai‘i Prep in August.

Dinkel also attended this year’s HHSAA State Track and Field Championship as a member of KSH’s 4×100 meter relay team.

Last week, Dinkel announced that he will attend Utah Tech University this Fall — where he will continue his athletic career as a member of the Trailbalzers’ football and soccer teams.

The 12 Hall of Honor inductees will be honored at a banquet set for 5 p.m. June 4 at Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu.

Each inductee also will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of the HHSAA and Enterprise Holdings, which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car brands.

The Hall of Honor program has recognized the top 12 Hawai‘i senior student-athletes each year since 1983, but returned this year from a hiatus which began in 2020.
