Kamehameha Schools Hawaii boys soccer team defeated PAC-5 3-2 in OT Saturday, winning the Div. II HHSAA Boys State Championship to claim back-to-back state titles.
Poikeao Roback opened scoring for the Warriors with a goal in just the 4th minute of gameplay. But PAC-5 was quick to answer as Nolean Bowler scored in the 6th minute on a header, assisted by Jared Saiki.
The Wolfpack again scored in the 27th minute, this time by Mark Spencer, with an assist by Bowler to make it 2-1.
KS-Hawaii’s top scorer, Elijah Dinkel, evened things up in the second half with a goal from a free kick in the 43rd minute.
The score would remain 2-2 through the end of second half.
Roback scored his second goal of the night with an 83rd minute match-winner in OT, giving KS-Hawaii the 3-2 win.
The Warriors defeated Seabury 2-1 Friday night in the semifinals, with goals by Lucas Kay-Wong in the 62nd minute and Micah Chung in the 73rd minute.
KS-Hawaii finishes the season 14-1-1 overall.
Kohala boys basketball wins Div. II state title
Kohala boys basketball defeated University Lab 40-38 Friday night to win the Div. II HHSAA Boys State Championship.
Junior Landon Kauka led scoring for the Cowboys, putting up 19 points, with 16 of those coming in the first three quarters. His brother Layden Kauka was second in scoring with 13 points and Jaydon Hook scored 8.
It is the second state title in three years for the Cowboys.
Kohala finishes the season 10-1 in league play and 19-2 overall.
Hilo High ties Kalani, 1-1
The Hilo High School boys soccer team tied Kalani 1-1 in Saturday’s third place match during the Div. I HHSAA Boys State Championship tournament. Joseph Andrade scored Hilo’s lone goal in the 63rd minute of play.
The Vikings fell to Mililani 1-0 on Friday night in the semifinals.
The team finishes the season with a 10-1-3 record.
HPA wins third-place match
Hawaii Preparatory Academy defeated Waialua 2-1 Saturday to claim third place in the Div. II HHSAA Boys State Championship tournament.
HPA’s Alex Link scored the opening goal in the 9th minute. Zekiel Balmoja of Waialua scored in the 22nd minute and Kena Craven scored HPA’s second goal in the 48th minute of play. The Ka Makani finish the season 8-5-3 overall.
