The Hawaii Island Humane Society brought puppies from the Keaau shelter and the Hawaii County Animal Control shelter to Petco at Prince Kuhio Plaza for families to bond and play with the young dogs.
A few people went home with a new member of the family, and the puppies that were not adopted were brought back to the shelters. The puppies returning to the Animal Control shelter will be moved to HIHS once more space opens up.
HIHS actively facilitates a foster-to-adopt program at the Keaau shelter and the Animal Community Center in Kailua-Kona for dogs and cats of all ages.
Those interested in adopting a new pet can view pictures of the animals online and submit an online application for approval.
Walk-ins are also welcomed at both shelters from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Dogs and cats can be viewed in their kennels, and those interested in adoption can fill out an adoption application at the shelter.
All puppies are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines and monthly preventatives. Adult dogs 6 months old and older have been heartworm tested.
