Decision-making on a bill to reorganize management of Maunakea has been postponed until Friday.
At a Tuesday meeting of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, Oahu Sen. Donavan Dela Cruz postponed discussion and a vote on the bill, with no further comment from any committee member about the measure.
The bill would create a new management structure for Maunakea, consigning the summit area to the jurisdiction of a new state agency, the Mauna Kea Stewardship and Oversight Authority, which would be placed administratively within the University of Hawaii, which currently manages the summit area.
Friday also is the last day for bills to emerge from their final committees in their nonoriginating chamber.
The hearing Friday will begin at 10:35 a.m.
