John Raymond Carlstrom, 73, of Kailua-Kona died July 25 at home. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., he was a self-employed builder, furniture maker, beekeeper and songwriter. Private services. Simplicio Carpio Sr., 79, of Waimea died Aug. 3 in Honolulu. Born in Sanchez Mira Cagayan, Philippines, he was a baker at Mauna Kea Beach Resort and devoted family man. Martha Rose Kekaikuihala De Mello, 80, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 2 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired federal government secretary and member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Oahu and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private service and burial Friday, Sept. 10, at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kaneohe, Oahu. Celebration of life at a later date.
