Janet Sachiko Mukai, 89, of Hilo died April 27 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Ookala, she was a homemaker and was known as the “Plant Lady,” selling her potted plants in the former Food Fair Supermarket on Kinoole Street in Hilo. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Derrick S. (Iris) Mukai of Hilo and Dwayne T. (Lisa Kon-Mukai) Mukai of Hilo; daughter, Cathy Ann R. (Paul) Moon of Hilo; brothers, Gerald (Betty) Matsubara of Pearl City, Oahu, and Glenn Matsubara of Hilo; sister, JoAnn Matsubara of Hilo; son-in-law, Dale Silver of Dallas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
